On Friday, May 18, Dr. John Reckner, and several staff members volunteered at the MOM-n-PA Dental Clinic in Reading, PA. This two-day free dental clinic was open to patients who cannot otherwise afford dental care. Treatment was provided on a first-come, first-serve basis and attracted 874 patients on Friday and over 1,000 patients on Saturday. Last year’s Mom-n-PA dental mission donated $600,798 worth of dental services to the underserved.
In recognition of Children’s Dental Health Month, hygienists from Weaver, Reckner & Reinhart visited schools in the area to demonstrate proper brushing techniques and promote dental health. Some of the schools that participated included Deep Run Presbyterian Nursery School, New Friends Nursery School in Harleysville, Salford Hills Elementary, Line Lexington Mennonite Preschool in Hatfield, and Tabor Hill Nursery School in Woxall. For the past 10 years, WRR has been participating in this program with local schools to support their mission of educating the community on dental health issues and sharing their resources with those who need them.
Last month, Weaver, Reckner & Reinhart Dental Associates celebrated Children’s Dental Health Month. Throughout the month, colorful posters were hung in both offices featuring fun dental facts and important dental hygiene tips. A contest held for WRR’s youngest patients showcased their best “tooth craft” or coloring masterpiece for a prize. In addition, several of the practice’s hygiene staff visited schools in the area to demonstrate proper brushing techniques and promote dental health.
The dental team of Weaver, Reckner & Reinhart Dental Associates returned home on January 20 after nine days in Nicaragua as part of a Dental Mission with Hearts, Hands and Smiles Foundation. This is the second year the WRR team, comprised of dental hygienists and dental assistants, and led by Dr. Todd Weaver and Dr. John Reckner, traveled to Nicaragua to lend their time and talent to treat hundreds of patients in need.
Overall, the team completed 889 procedures on over 600 patients. The group began their trip in the Capital City of Managua, where they treated close to 200 children with dental cleanings, restorations and oral surgery at a community center that serves children in education and training. “We were very tired, but very energized, and full of love for the people,” says Dr. Todd Weaver. Other stops included the Masachapa region, a health fair in Villa El Carmen, a Rotary International visit in a local clinic, and a return to a small mountain village for the second year. For more photos on their trip, visit our Facebook page.
So far, the WRR team’s Nicaraguan Dental Mission has been both productive and challenging. During the first few days, the team treated close to 200 children in the Capital City of Managua, before moving southwest to the Masachapa region. Other stops during their Mission include a health fair in Villa El Carmen, a Rotary International visit in a local clinic, and will conclude with the mountain village they visited last year. Dr. Todd Weaver, Dr. John Reckner and five other volunteers from Weaver, Reckner & Reinhart Dental Associates have returned to Nicaragua to spend an entire week treating patients with the Hearts, Hands & Smiles Foundation. This is the second year in a row the WRR team has joined the Foundation, founded by Robert Ayers, in Nicaragua. The team is returning to Villa El Carmen, as well as treating in new communities including Club Esperanza, a ministry center providing for the needs of children in Nicaragua.
Due to the generous donations of many, the team will be able to provide necessary dental care to hundreds of patients. Follow the Nicaragua Dental Mission on our facebook page and on social media #wrrSmiling #wrrDentalMission.
For over 12 years, the staff of Weaver, Reckner Reinhart Dental Associates has come together to create beautiful Thanksgiving baskets for families in our community. This year, trimmings for a Thanksgiving dinner were donated, along with essential items to fill a pantry in each of the 21 Thanksgiving baskets. Members of the staff then delivered them to Keystone Opportunity Center. The Center serves over 200 families every month, and welcomes donations and volunteers throughout the year. This year, the doctors donated a $25 gift card for each basket to Giant Foods.
Dr. Todd Weaver, Dr. John Reckner, Dr. George Reinhart, Dr. Tracy Reinhart, Dr. David Guengerich and Dr. Chris Zeledon traveled to Penn State recently for the annual fall meeting of the Pennsylvania Academy of General Dentistry. The lectures this year concentrated on Pediatric Dentistry and communication with young children in the dental setting, as well as updates on Opioid and narcotic uses in pain control. These topics are vital to treating patients in a general dental practice. We are grateful for the dedication of our dentists to continuing education and promotion of a learning environment in the practice.
“An oral cancer screening is a quick and painless part of your ordinary dental examination,” says Dr. John Reckner, F.A.G.D. “Although we perform cancer screenings all year long, in April we support OralCancerCause.org, a national foundation that helps patients and their families undergoing treatment for oral cancer.” In April our team wore purple ribbons, and educated our patients about the importance of early detection. Learn more about the benefits and how easy it is to have an oral cancer screening.
Bubble Gum Challenge!
This year we participated in the Bubble Gum Challenge! Many oral cancer patients are not able to chew gum … or blow a bubble. We blew bubbles for those who cannot.
We made a donation to Oral Cancer Cause’ Bubble Gum Challenge and encourage our community to support their mission. All donations to this nonprofit are tax deductible and go to helping patients and their families during treatment and to educating the public about the importance of oral cancer exams.

“I love that I can fully enhance my patients smile from adding volume in their lips and cheeks to smoothing out lines throughout their face. Now with the addition of Kybella I can reduce the fullness under a patient’s chin. Botox has helped my patients feel even happier with their smiles and gives them the confidence of a more youthful look.”
